Oatmeal is a yummy breakfast, especially on a chilly winter day. Oats are a good source of soluble fiber and contain beta-glucans which help to lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar levels, and keep you feeling satisfied. They also contain insoluble fiber which prevents constipation, promotes regular bowel movements, and may reduce the risk of colon cancer. Oats are also a gluten-free whole grain and are rich in vitamins and minerals including potassium, magnesium, manganese, and several B vitamins.
Starting your day with a bowl of oatmeal instead of granola is a wonderful weight-loss swap that will save you lots of added sugar and calories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I love adding a boost of protein to my oatmeal. Adding protein to your oatmeal is a great way to increase satiety while adding an extra punch of flavor to your meal.
Protein will also help to repair your muscles after a workout, is essential to building hormones and enzymes in the body, and lots more.
Looking to incorporate more protein into your oatmeal? Consider pairing your oatmeal with these 6 protein-packed foods:
Walnuts
Peanut Butter
Milk (note: almond milk does not contain protein)
Eggs
Yogurt
Sunflower Seeds
If you prefer almonds over walnuts or cashew butter over peanut butter, that’s ok.
And then, feel free to top with your favorite fruit (I love blueberries and raspberries) and even chia, flax or hemp seeds.
I’ve created this cheat sheet you can bookmark as a reminder.
